I am the Vice President of Information Technology and I joined Care2Learn in November of 2006. I personally oversee the entire production environment for Care2Learn, including system hardware; backup and recovery plans; phone system; disaster recovery; and the end-to-end development and implementation of the Care2Learn.com web sites. I arrived at Care2Learn with 10 years of experience in the information technology arena and was fortunate enough to be on the ground floor of development with the release Microsoft .Net in 2002. I’ve worked within the Banking and Healthcare and Service industries, developing and supporting enterprise-level web applications with up to 10,000+ users and terabytes of data.
I loved technology as a kid and followed that into a military career in the Naval Nuclear Power Program, where I served as a Reactor Operator for the nuclear plants onboard the USS Long Beach out of San Diego, CA. During my eight years in the Navy, I was able to work on my B.S. in Workforce Education and Development from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale.
After leaving the service, I worked for TransWorld Diversified Services, Inc. here in Tampa, FL. I took over the training department, instructing people in many different software suites – including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Access, and even Word Perfect. I became certified as a Microsoft Office User Specialist in all applications and was a certified Microsoft Office Trainer. My responsibilities also included training on HTML, ASP, and JavaScript, which allowed me to get into the development environment. My team not only performed training, we also started taking on external projects – allowing me to further my development skills to the point where I went to work as the lead programmer for eMason, Inc.
At eMason, Inc. we created a web application using ASP classic and converted it to .Net when the application was sold to Fidelity National Financial (NYSE: FNF). As part of the transition, I went to work for Fidelity National Default Solutions, where our application turned into NewTrak™. I worked for two years with Fidelity, until I found an opportunity at Ideal Image Development Corp., Inc. and become certified as a Microsoft Certified Application Developer (MCAD).
At Ideal Image I was the Application Manager over three developers for a .Net, Windows-based remote application. We went from supporting one location to just over 63 locations, including sites in Australia. We had a lot of fun and I was in a good learning environment when I got a phone call telling me about a great opportunity with Care2Learn.
Since being at Care2Learn, my team and I have launched several successful implementations of the Learning Management System (LMS) for several specific clients, and we have launched two main production web sites handling millions of transactions.
My wife and I and our three children have lived in the Tampa Bay area since 1996. On April 1st, 2004, one of my children was diagnosed as a Type I diabetic. This event has driven me to be actively involved with the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) to bring diabetes awareness to schools, work places, and everyone I touch, as this terrible disease continues to affect our world at an exponential rate.
